Balancing Act

I have this great little book called "Balance for Busy Moms" 101 Time-Management Tips by Ellyn Sanna.  I read it whenever I need a little dose of "relax, Crissa, you can't do everything."  So today I randomly opened the book to tip #30, which said "Be flexible enough to sometimes set your agenda aside."  Seriously - I thought, that is easier said than done.  But after I thought about it, it made a lot of sense to me.
Sometimes interruptions - like a sick child, a friend in need, or an impromptu invitation to the movies with your best friend -  need to be accepted and allowed.  Case in point, last Monday I spent the entire day sick in bed with the flu.  I didn't think about doing anything, I couldn't even if I wanted to.  Tuesday morning came and I had a big important meeting at work, so I was up and at 'em early and never looked back until my day finally came to an end.  Before I knew it, it was time to get my weak, tired self to bed.  I didn't have time to do the laundry, pack the kid's lunches for daycare, put away the party ware from Saturday's get together or even empty the dishwasher.  I was a little freaked about it all, but I overcame my anxiety with a good night's rest.
Throughout the rest of the week, I tackled each leftover task one by one, in my own sweet time.  You know what?  It wasn't so bad.  'An agenda is just a tool designed to help us manage our time more effectively and a tool is meant to serve it's owner, not the other way around.  Don't be tied to your daily planner - God may have something else planned for you today.'

Thanks for letting me share my lessons-learned, with you.  I hope they help make your day a tiny bit easier.

Have a great day,
