Appreciation Beyond Words

Last Friday, my soon-to-be eight-year old son made me a card at school.  This card was not a simple card with a heart that says "I love you, Mom" on it (although it did include that).  It was a detailed beautiful work of art in the form of a "thank you" card.  A thank you card hand drawn by my son for me to thank me for helping him after he got stitches in his knee.

When Ethan handed the card to me he was so proud - he said "here Mommy, I made this for you."  I was so impressed by the detail he put on the cover.  From the picture of the two of us walking our dog, to our dog smelling the ground, to the pieces of wood under the wheels of the boat trailer. 

I can't tell you how happy I was to receive his card.  It was a reality check for me.  It made me realize that not only is my son taking after his "talented artist" daddy, but he's also growing into a compassionate little boy who knows how to express his feelings.

It's reassurance that my husband and I are doing something right in raising our children.
